20 Useful Tools For Amazon S3

Amazon’s self storage service (S3) is becoming increasing popular because of its scalability and reliability. However, the lack of a graphical interface makes it hard for everybody to use S3. But with the tools mentioned below, you will be able to do everything with S3 that you have ever wanted without any hassle.

1.Cloudberry

Cloudberry Explorer for Amazon S3 makes the management of files in Amazon S3 easy.  Cloudberry provides a user interface to the accounts and files of Amazon S3 so that you can easily store and manage files as you would do on local computer.

2. S3 Browser 1.8

S3 Browser is a free interface which is designed for Amazon S3. There are number of features of S3 Browser. You can easily manage your Amazon Buckets and files, make use of user friendly interface, use drag and drop support, create public URLs to share information and utilize the full unicode support.

3. S3 DAV

S3 DAV supports the backup tools of S3. S3DAV itself is not a backup tool. It is useful to provide WebDAV front-end to S3 storage. This will allow you to use many other S3 tools with ease. Java is the primary requirement for S3DAV.

4. S3 Backup

S3 Backup is failure free encrypted backup system. It is powered by Amazon S3 which is fast, reliable and scalable in any phase. It has very cheap internet storage infrastructure that Amazon uses to run its global network of websites. S3 Backup is a wonderful system that enables the data to be stored at multiple locations, making sure that even if a disaster comes, your data remains safe.

5. Jungle Disk

Jungle Disk is a dynamic and automatic backup system, powered by Amazon S3. It doesn’t only provide basic backup features but also gives a complete network drive that you can use from multiple machines. The concept is similar to a big storage USB that can be connected anywhere. The caching feature makes the file transfer quite fast just like how it would function in your local drive. There is no limit to the backup.

6. Duplicity

Duplicity is used to make backup of directories by producing encrypted-tar format volumes and then getting them uploaded to local or remote server. Duplicity uses librsync, which means that incremental archives can utilize space efficiently and only record those parts of files that have changed since last backup. Duplicity signs these archives so that they can be kept safe from any modification by server.

S3 solutions have been developed by the programmers to assist the Amazon S3 service. Some of the featured solutions are, Capcal ( helps in creating load tests of unlimited size), Scalr.net ( allows you to host applications of the cloud), S3 bucket ( allows you to upload and download data in the buckets), etc.

8. Bucket upload

Bucket Upload is a wonderful application which is designed to upload files to amazon S3 bucket. It can also upload images and other multimedia files to Flicker, any web server or any FTP server. The files can be images, audio files, videos or any other documents. Bucket upload also provides a file browser that lists folders from local file system, SD card and shared system providers.

9. OpenS3

OpenS3 allows you to use your personal S3 keys for the purpose of accessing stored data through SMEStorage platform. You can access your files via rich file manager that this platform offers. Besides you can also access your files via Iphone, Facebook, google, mobile, etc.

10. S3 Anywhere

S3Anywhere is powered by S3 Amazon. It is a file manager for Android handsets. It can manage multiple S3 buckets. It is available with both, handsets and S3 file managers. It is also equipped with download and upload features. File manager allows the renaming, deleting and copying of files.

11. S3 For Live Writer

S3 for Windows live writer is a plug-in that is designed to browse the Amazon S3 account. It helps in inserting the references to objects in S3 buckets. S3 Browser for Windows live writer can also work efficiently while uploading files directly from the plug-in. It is mainly intended for the images and files to be used in blogging.

Cross FTP is a FTP client providing full support to WebDav and Amazon S3. 13. S3 Browser

S3 browser is a freeware client for services of Amazon S3. S3 Browser will provide help in uploading and downloading files to and from Amazon S3. You can even publish your own content through it, manage S3 buckets, share your buckets with other S3 users and keep your files as a backup on multiple locations.

15. S3 WordPress Plugin

S3 WordPress plugin allows a user to use Amazon S3 to host your media for your personalized WordPress powered blog. If you have a lot of media like videos or images on your WordPress blog, then this useful plugin will allow you to utilize Amazon S3 for proper storage and bandwidth usage. Once you install this plugin, all of your wordpress files are transferred to S3 bucket.

16. Transmit

Transmit is an FTP client for Mac Operating system. It is developed by Panic, one of the leading software developers. It supports Amazon S3 with a number of features like uploading via dashboard widget, WebDAV, Automator plugins and a lot more of such features.

17. Amazon S3 Fox

Amazon S3 Fox organizer (S3Fox) allows a user to upload and download files back and forth from Amazon S3. The interface opens in a Firefox browser tab which is pretty much like FTP client having dual pane layout. Some of its main features are, ability to create and use multiple S3 accounts, modifying access control policies, create time limited URLs, etc.

18. Jet S3t

JetS3t is a completely free and open source java toolkit and application suite for Amazon S3. The toolkit is designed to provide Java programmers with simple yet powerful API to interact and manipulate stuff in S3 and manage the data stored down there. Applications of JetS3t allow users to easily manage files and interact with their S3 accounts.

19. Flickr To S3 Backup Tool

Flickr To S3 Backup Tool allows you to make a backup of your photos on flickr on Amazon S3. This is a minimal python script.

20. S3 Browse

S3 browse provides a user with user friendly interface for Amazon S3. This interface has features like uploading objects to S3, browsing objects in S3 buckets owned by you and buckets to which you are authorized, create time limited URLs so that people could download stuff from your Amazon S3 account, etc.

    Thats the only online app that doesn’t require users to share their Amazon credentials with a 3rd party web site which makes your online experience way more secure.

  2. As I am a new budding web developer.This article helps me to evolve new faces of Amazon S3.The S3 browser is a cool interfacing tool where as Cross FTP is a bit “too complex to work with” kind of tool.

  3. This is greate list of S3 tools but there is one other that could have made the list had it got a better feal is http://bit.ly/mRMVK. Its definitely has features to be right up there. Have you tried it? You have at least listed the ones those were close behind those 20 you have listed.

    I have been using CloudBuddy from http://www.mycloudbuddy.com/ for some time. I found it quite user friendly and feature rich. I particularly liked their SDK and MS-Office integration.
